November is the perfect month to transition your home from summer life to winter life. Pack away the pool toys, beach bags, even the lawnmower and begin to ready your home for the holidays, entertaining, watching football, and staying warm! What are some easy and affordable changes you can make to help move your home into winter?

Update your palette.

An instant winter facelift for cooler weather often means changing your palette to warmer tones, like rusts, deep reds, rich navy blues, and dark greens. You can switch out your décor pillows and table-top items, like vases, centerpieces and greenery to reflect deeper, richer tones. Candles in the winter months instantly make a space feel cozy.  We love adding rich, textural baskets filled with a chunky throw or two that shows you are ready to curl up in front of the fireplace.

Make your fireplace the focal point.

This is also the perfect time of year to add new emphasis to your fireplace. Whether you have a wood burning fireplace or a gas one, position your furniture to face the fireplace front, making this the key focal point in the room. You can easily give your fireplace a quick facelift by painting old brick. We love a deep charcoal gray or a fresh farmhouse white. If your fireplace front has shiny brass strips or trim, paint this with heat resistant flat black paint. You can find this at any paint or hardware store. Make sure the label says “heat resistant.” You will find this calms down the fireplace cover and brings the focus to your mantel, hearth and other finishing around the fireplace.

What’s appropriate for holiday décor when trying to sell your home?

This is one of the most common questions we receive from our clients. Some stagers encourage you to decorate as you always would and enjoy your home and holiday season. Others say you shouldn’t have anything seasonal out because you may alienate a potential buyer. We recommend erring on the lighter side of holiday décor, particularly to show off the key selling features of your home. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have anything out, just don’t hide your gorgeous mantel or rich wood railing with heavy seasonal décor. Or block a key view with a large decorative object. And remember not everyone celebrates the same way that you may, so you don’t want to offend or alienate a potential buyer.

It’s time to be Thankful!

November is a perfect month to reflect upon the past year, to give thanks for all the special people and opportunities in our lives, and to think ahead to a wonderful, healthy and active year in 2020!

With that in mind, Set To Show wants to take a moment to thank our wonderful clients, agents and builders for the opportunity to work in their homes and listings. Each home offers a special set of needs and allows us to create new experiences and knowledge that we use as we move forward in our staging and design business. Each client also becomes a new friend to STS, as they welcome us into their homes. To all of you, we say thank you. Thank you so much for your business, the opportunities to help, and your friendship. We are hopeful and excited about 2020!
